“Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) has announced a $40M Food, Farming, and Forestry Challenge to accelerate innovation in these critical sectors.
The Challenge is open to farmers, ranchers, innovators, technology developers, Indigenous communities, industry, industrial associations, SMEs, R&D organizations, post-secondary institutions, municipalities, nonprofits, government research labs, and individuals. Partnerships and collaborations are encouraged.
The program seeks to ensure Alberta has access to sustainable food and fibre supplies and can navigate the economic repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal is to innovate in order to lower production and processing costs for food and fibre, leverage nature-based solutions to sequester carbon from the atmosphere, and more.
Each project can receive up to $5M in funding and cover up to 50% of total project costs. Proposed projects should be at the pilot, demonstration, scale-up, or first-of-kind deployment stages.
The deadline to apply is Aug. 27.”
